We got our start in the beef industry by showing steers at our local county fair. That experience sparked Jay’s interest in the breeding cattle aspect of the beef business. Thanks to some influence from friends – Irish Acres Simmentals, Wishing Well Simmentals and Point Creek Simmental Farm come to mind – and a confidence that it is the most functional and versatile of all breeds, Simmental was our obvious choice. In the fall of 2008, we began purchasing embryos and high quality females, with a focus on well-known Simmental cow families.
Soon, our show horizons expanded. While we are still active at the county fair, our resume now includes Wisconsin State Fair, the 2010 AJSA National Classic, 2011 AJSA North Central Regional Classic, World Beef Expo, 2011 NAILE, 2012 National Western and more. The highlight of our show career, thus far, came at the 2011 Wisconsin State Fair, where we exhibited the Supreme Champion Female (Harkers Emerald), Reserve Supreme Champion Bull (FBF1 Black Ambition) and Champion Foundation Simmental Cow/Calf Pair (JF Blackbird Lady 8008U) – all in one day. It was a day we’ll never forget.
At the 2011 NAILE we exhibited the Reserve National Champion Simmental Bull (FBF1 Supremacy) and also a Division Reserve Champion and Class Winner (FBF1 Combustible).
At the 2012 National Western we exhibited a Class Winner (FBF1 Combustible).
